Google Chrome can sort of work on Linux under WINE. If you want a light webkit browser for Linux natively, I recommend Arora or Midori. (Arora is much better for every day use for now!)

I keep meaning to give this a try on an older machine. Looks to be lighter than XFCE but better for the average user than other lightweight options (Enlightenment, WindowMaker, Fluxbox and so forth are nice, but they are not good for converting Windows users).
